Reflection

This story was very powerful. What I enjoyed the most about this story was how it didn’t sugar coat anything. It was very real about the horror of our borders, and what people have to go through to get here. My favorite part of the story was when the main character talked about the people protesting outside. The privilege and ignorance of them. I thought it was spot on to how things are in the real world, and took a second to point out the privilege these people have.

I liked the style of the story, how it seems like it draws on. The desperation you feel waiting for her son to turn up helps to make the story feel almost agonizing. The way it was ended, while not resolving the problem, helps you to understand how these things usually end up in real life. What the reality of the situation.

Something about how depressing this part of the story is really helps represent the mood of the rest of it. It captures how terrible and sad the rest of the story is and really encapsulates it as a whole.

I was inspired by a scrapbook look. I wanted to add a bit of contrast to the mood of the story with the colors and patterns, while still representing how it makes you feel and what happens in the story.
